The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces, Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi has met the delegation of the Russian Federation in Uganda at the Ministry of Defence headquarters, Mbuya.
The Russian Delegation was headed by Col. Vitolli Demenko who is on a working visit in Uganda.
The meeting was on matters of bilateral importance and further enhancement of military cooperation between the two countries including military training and assistance.
Col. Vitolli Demenko appreciated the military cooperation between Uganda and Russia and further expressed his country’s willingness to strengthen defence related ties between the two countries and in response, the CDF assured him of the same.
“The cooperation between our two countries dates way back. I appreciate the military support that your country has accorded us over the years and we will continue working together so that this relationship is maintained. Russia has been supporting us in terms of training, procurement and maintenance of equipments which has helped us to build capacity to defend not only our country but to also support regional peace activities so as to ensure stability in the region.” CDF remarked.
Following the meeting, there was exchange of souvenirs to mark the occasion.
The Commander UPDF Air Force, Lt Gen Charles Lwanga Lutaaya, the Joint Chief of Staff of UPDF, Maj Gen Leopold Eric Kyanda were also present in the discussion.
