The Commander Special Forces Command, Maj Gen David Mugisha, has praised His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), for prioritising training to transform the UPDF into a professional and modern force.
“The President’s commitment to training and his desire to transform the UPDF from a rag-tag force to a modern, lethal, productive, hi-tech and pro-people force made him prioritise establishing UPDF training schools,” said Maj Gen Mugisha.
Maj Gen Mugisha, who represented the Chief of Defence Forces, made the remarks today at the School of Defence Intelligence and Security, Migyera, Nakasongola, during the passing-out parade of officers and men who completed the Special Investigations Bureau Course. He urged them to remember the core values of loyalty, conscious discipline, integrity, duty, honour, honesty, and courage that have guided and shaped their progress.
Brig Gen Abdu Rugumayo, the Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, commended the students for displaying the highest technical standards, discipline, and general commitment during the course duration. He implored them to beware of the service challenges in the field and cautioned them against corruption, favouritism, and discrimination in conducting their duties.
The Commandant of the School of Defence Intelligence and Security, Col James Muhumuza, said that the officers and men are coming at a critical time where criminality is sophisticated, aided by the development of science and technology. “We have given you the basic skills, but you need to continue improving yourselves,” said Col Muhumuza.
