In an intelligence-led operation, joint security forces put out of action two notorious warriors and recovered an SMG gun (number H9211) along with 27 live rounds of ammunition in the Karenga district of the Karamoja Sub-region.
The warriors, identified as Issa Lokuria and Lemukol Lopiringole, were both residents of Lolelia Sub-county in Kaabong district. Their accomplice, a male named Tayal Korianga, was captured alive and is currently in custody.
The operation, which included an exchange of gunfire, took place on 25 September 2024, targeting criminal hideouts in Lokodope village, Naoyagum parish, within Kawalakol Sub-county. The group had been camped there for several days, plotting appalling crimes against humanity.
The slain warrior, Issa Lokuria, had led his criminal faction for years, terrorising innocent residents in the sub-counties of Kathile, Lolelia, Sangar, Karenga, Morungole, and Kawalakol. His group was also known for forming alliances with elements in South Sudan, engaging in cross-border smuggling of small arms and ammunition, as well as poaching in Kidepo Valley National Park.
Their demise follows persistent appeals from security forces and local leadership for the group to utilise the existing Amnesty Window.
The joint security forces remain committed to ensuring security and peace in the Karamoja Sub-region and defending the territorial integrity of the Republic of Uganda.
