Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, the Commander Land Force of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), has praised retiring junior officers for their dedication to ensuring peace and prosperity in Uganda.
Speaking at a retirement ceremony for 179 officers at the Land Force headquarters in Bombo, Lt Gen Muhanga congratulated the retirees for their years of service and encouraged them to maintain discipline as they transition to civilian life.
“Continue being disciplined as you join the civilian population,” he advised, urging the officers to avoid excessive drinking and to invest their retirement packages wisely. He also encouraged them to explore opportunities such as Operation Wealth Creation to enhance their livelihoods.
Lt Gen Muhanga acknowledged the vital role played by the spouses of the retiring officers. “Your support at home enabled these officers to serve the nation effectively,” he said.
Capt Robert Karamagi, speaking on behalf of the retirees, thanked the UPDF for the opportunity to serve Uganda and urged those still in active service to remain disciplined and patriotic.
The ceremony was attended by several senior officials, including Deputy Commander Land Force Maj Gen Francis, Chief of Staff – Reserve Force Brig Gen Mwanje Ssekiranda, Adjutant JSHQ-BD Brig Gen Hassan Kimbowa, and General Manager Defence Forces Shop Uganda Ltd Brig Gen Metland Bitumbika, as well as family members and community leaders.
