The Commander 4 Infantry Division, Maj Gen Felix Busizoori, has urged troops to act responsibly while on duty. He made the remarks during a military sensitization forum, known as Baraza, which is conducted monthly to update militants on regional security developments.
Speaking at the Division Headquarters in Gulu District, Maj Gen Busizoori warned troops against acts of indiscipline that could jeopardize their future careers.
His caution comes in the wake of the tragic loss of a soldier in previous years due to alcohol-related incidents. He stressed that the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) policies of professionalism are based on discipline, integrity, commitment, and determination at all levels, both at home and in the workplace, he added.
Maj Gen Busizoori encouraged troops to invest in productive ventures instead of being drawn into distractions that could derail their goals, potentially leading to untimely death or arrests.
However, he commended the troops for their commitment during recent operations, describing them as strong and determined soldiers. He highlighted UPDF’s presence in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, which has significantly contributed to regional stability.
He also emphasized the importance of saving with Wazalendo SACCO, noting that high interest rates from private banks have contributed to financial distress among soldiers, sometimes leading to forced desertion.
The meeting was attended by Division department heads and staff.
