The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, held talks with his Mozambican counterpart, Chief of General Staff of the Mozambique Armed Forces (FADM), Admiral Joaquim Mangrasse in Maputo. The meeting took place at the Mozambican Armed Forces Headquarters on Thursday.
The two military leaders acknowledged the historic relations between Uganda and Mozambique, established through President Yoweri Museveni’s friendship with Mozambican founding President Samora Machel. They further engaged in bilateral discussions aimed at enhancing relations between the two military forces.
Before their discussions, the Mozambican military chief thanked Gen Kainerugaba for honouring their invitation to the Armed Forces Day celebrations that took place on Wednesday. Gen Kainerugaba, who was in Maputo to commemorate the Armed Forces Day celebrations, was accompanied by Brig Michael Nyarwa, the UPDF Marines Commander, and Brig William Bainomugisha, the Military Police Commander.
The meeting was also attended by top military leaders from the Mozambican Armed Forces. During the Armed Forces Day celebrations, Gen Kainerugaba took part in the ceremonies, including laying a wreath on Mozambican revolution hero Samora Machel’s resting place at Heroes Square in Maputo.
The Ugandan General also interacted with several military chiefs who attended the celebrations, also known as Revolution Day.
The event was attended by military commanders from East and Southern African countries and beyond.
