The Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs (Veteran Affairs), Hon. Huda Abason Oleru, received a delegation from the Republic of Azerbaijan, led by the Counselor Rustam Hasanli, who paid a courtesy call on her at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters, Mbuya.
This visit follows an earlier visit by the Managing Director of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) to Azerbaijan in October 2024.
Hon. Oleru expressed gratitude to the delegation for choosing to engage in international cooperation with Uganda.
During Uganda’s recent visit to Azerbaijan, the two parties agreed to explore areas of collaboration within the defence industries, particularly through NEC’s joint ventures such as Proheli International Services Ltd, which specialises in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of helicopters.
Counselor Rustam Hasanli, expressed commitment to continued support to the Ministry of Defence in both bilateral and multilateral relations, emphasising the importance of fostering sustainable defence growth, particularly in the area of technology.
Counselor Hasanli further promised to strengthen relations in areas such as manpower development, logistical support, and technological advancements.
The Ugandan delegation included Lt Gen Sam Okiding, Deputy Chief of Defence Forces; Lt Gen James Mugira, Managing Director of NEC; and Mrs Buturo Edith, Under Secretary of Finance and Administration MODVA.
