As the week-long 74th Graduation Ceremonies wind up at the prestigious Makerere University, UPDF’s own have been part of it, not only to provide security but also as Graduands.
85 UPDF Senior Officers were awarded the degree of Masters in Defence and Security Studies and a number of Junior Officers also graduated.
Professor Barnabus Nawangwe the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, while officiating at the ceremony today applauded the Government, the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces and their developmental partners for the moral support provided over the years that has enabled the university stand firm and remain the best in the country.
He said that they are proud to partner with the UPDF and Uganda Police in their efforts to professionalise the Armed Forces.
He congratulated the General and Senior Officers for successfully completing their journey with them as they walked away with awards after the completion of studies from their affiliated institutions of the National Defence College.
The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs Hon. Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja appreciated Makerere for accepting to join hands with Gen Yoweri Museveni’s vision to strengthen the Force by Professionalising it. “This milestone achievement follows our Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/UPDF firm collaboration with Makerere University in order to enhance the skills and professionalism of our gallant National army,” he added.
The ceremony was attended by Maj Gen Henry Masiko representing the Chief of Defence Forces, Commandant UMA Kabamba, Commandant of the Senior Police Command and Staff College, other UPDF officers and Members of Parliament, among other dignitaries.
