Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has today received a donation of about twenty thousand (20,000) disposable masks from Southern Range Nyanza Textiles as a contribution towards the completion of the 41st Tarehe Sita Anniversary celebrations.
The donation was received by the UPDF Deputy Chief of Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Col Samuel Ntambirwe on behalf of the Chief CIMIC Brig Gen Emmanuel Rwashande at the company’s warehouse in Ntinda Industrial Area.
Col Ntambirwe thanked the management of Southern Nyanza Textiles for the generous contributions towards the noble cause and supporting UPDF to fulfill its corporate social responsibility.
“Other than defending and protecting the territorial integrity of Uganda, it is also our role as the Peoples’ Force to always give back to the people and thank them for their different contributions towards the liberation struggle,” he said.
Col Ntambirwe added that the contribution will essentially strengthen efforts of the UPDF on having Quick Impact Projects that include minor civil works and refurbishing sanitation facilities on people and areas in the Elgon region.
The masks will be used by UPDF engineers and medical stuff to guard against the global Covid-19 pandemic as they engage in these symbolic civil and sanitation facilities.
While handing over the items, the General Manager Southern Range Nyanza Textiles (formerly Nytil) Mr. Jimmy Mutesasira noted that Nytil is grateful for having a good relationship with UPDF over the years.
He promised to continue working with the Forces whenever need arises, adding that Nytil Picfare Foundation is committed to giving back to the people as a shared responsibility with UPDF.
Col Sam Ntambirwe was flanked by representatives from the UPDF Chieftaincy of Political Commissariat, Chieftaincy of Medical Services and Office of the Defence Spokesperson as he received the donations.
