Bombo Land Forces Headquarter: The UPDF Land Forces Camp Commandant of the Headquarter based in Bombo, Maj Gen Joram Tumwine Kakari has called upon troops to embrace ideological campaign since it visibly defines UPDF as a disciplined force, non-partisan, national in character, patriotic, professional, productive and subordinate to civilian authority.
The orientation will rejuvenate the spirit of respect and accountability to the population of Uganda and beyond. Gen Kakari made this call while opening a three weeks’ Ideological Orientation Training at Land Forces headquarter in Bombo whose participants comprise of directors under Land Forces, commanders of units and staff officers.
In emphasizing the importance of ideological orientation, Maj Gen Kakari explained that UPDF ideology is manifested in the routine activities such as; training, operations command, administration and in institutional vision statement. “Therefore, UPDF ideology is a bond that has kept us united as an institutional fraternity since inception of liberation war of 1981 up to date.” Said the Camp Commandant, adding that during revolutionary struggle, ‘Vipindi ya Siasa’ (Periods of Political Education) were part and parcel of the mandatory military training with a fully-fledged political education package that kept the fighters abreast with current affairs, their mindsets upright and focused on the mission.
Thus the liberators were ultimately taught military values which included but not limited to conscious discipline, team work, loyalty, integrity, sacrifice and service. “The liberators observed the values of peoples’ lives and respect to personal property. This strategy did not only win the minds and hearts of the masses but equally promoted the core objectives, mission of NRA (National Resistance Army) and the reverential manifesto of the ruling NRM party”, recounted Gen Kakari.
Gen Kakari further informed participants that political education awareness has reflected UPDF relevance with a cohesive spirit towards the population in terms of service delivery and accountability of resources. “For instance, we have adequately rendered community support during Tarehe Sita week activities, operation wealth creation and of recent we responded and participated in the fight against global pandemic Covid-19 in support of civilian structures.”
He encouraged participants to value the training that will rejuvenate the spirit of wisdom, togetherness and above all; UPDF mandate of securing mankind.
Meanwhile, the Land Forces Director of Political Education, Col Anatoli Nuwagira who represented Chief Political Commissar, informed participants that, the orientation course is a renewal of our commitment to our motherland Uganda. He noted that invited facilitators will be able to talk about aspects like; conscious discipline, cohesion and commitment to work, history of Uganda and political economy since UPDF personnel participate in production and protect the production as well. Other fields of training will be knowledge of Operation Wealth Creation, Defence Shop operations, Wazalendo Sacco and financial literacy.
