In a stirring address at the School of Artillery and Air Defence (SAAD) in Olilimu, Katakwi District, Maj Gen Francis Takirwa, Deputy Chief of Land Force, underscored the critical importance of ideological clarity in navigating the complex landscape of global politics.
Speaking on behalf of Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, Commander Land Force, Maj Gen Takirwa officially inaugurated a week-long training course aimed at enhancing ideological understanding among military personnel.
Addressing trainees enrolled in the Level Three Man Course, Maj Gen Takirwa emphasised the significance of ideological studies, stating that such knowledge is instrumental in comprehending both regional and global security dynamics.
The Deputy Chief called for unwavering discipline and urged trainees to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in their respective units and formations.
Maj Gen Takirwa stressed the virtue of patience, advising the trainees that it is through perseverance that “army leadership identifies someone’s capacity and elevates him or her to a higher level.” He further exhorted the trainees to maintain their commitment to the initial mission, safeguard their health, and abstain from any form of substance abuse.
In his concluding remarks, Maj Gen Takirwa highlighted the importance of upholding the spirit of Patriotism and Pan-Africanism, describing these as “core values of UPDF” and explaining their role in the force’s participation in regional operations.
The event was attended by notable figures including Col RD Kitwa, Commandant of SAAD, Lt Col Asaba, Director of Political Education at Land Force, as well as facilitators and junior officers of the UPDF.
