Team two of course participants from the National Defence College – Uganda (NDC -U) currently undertaking a field study tour, have today visited Kinyara Sugar Limited in Masindi District.
The participants who were led by the College Secretary Brig Gen Simon Ochan wanted to explore the contribution of the factory to the social economic transformation of the country.
In his remarks after welcoming participants, the General Manager Kinyara Sugar Limited Mr. Ravi Ramalingam noted that the factory aims at becoming a market leader in the production of white sugar and green energy by partnering with communities for inclusive growth.
He said the factory employs over 20,000 people through both direct and indirect employment and produces about 9.5MW of power used for the production of sugar and in support of other activities.
The General Manager added that the factory is also environmentally friendly since it has both the bio-fertilizer and bio-pesticide plants and laboratories that produce pesticides and fertilizers to enrich the downtrodden soils.
Additionally, soil testing is also done before usage and the factory trains sugar cane outgrowers free of charge, added Mr. Ravi.
He thanked UPDF for securing Uganda for business to flourish.
The Communication Officer at the factory Ms. Carol Amongin said the factory fulfills its Corporate Social Responsibility through programs like building schools, health centers, feeder roads, bore holes and runs a fully-fledged meteorological station, among others.
Brig Gen Kefa Nangeso, a Senior Directing Staff at NDC-U, also explained to the participants and management the need to preserve peace and security for such factories to contribute to socio – economic transformation.
