The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen David Muhoozi has today 17th May 2021 officiated at the launch of the 13th Edition of the CDF cup under the theme: “Promoting Cohesiveness, Mutual Support And Cooperation For Sustainable Peace, Stability And National Security For Socio-Economic Transformation”, at the Ministry of Works playground in Entebbe municipality.
Gen Muhoozi said he was so delighted to launch the kickoff of this tournament because this event is not only about mutual respect ,keeping fit and readiness, but also about imparting discpline in the forces.
The CDF said, “Our next ambition is to go beyond soccer, probably netball, volleyball, female soccer and others such that everyone amongst our ranks takes part. But apparently, we are still constrained by our tight budget.”
Gen Muhoozi said that Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) always targets to enlist sportsmen and women during the recruitment exercises with the ambition to contribute to the national talent. He encouraged players to always keep fit as one of the ways of fighting COVID19.
He thanked WSACCO (Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society) for their continued support with sports gear and FUFA (Federation of Uganda Football Associations) for supporting the UPDF football team (Simba).
The Deputy Commander Airforce Maj Gen Katsigazi who represented Commander Airforce (CAF) thanked the CDF for honoring the invitation to officiate at the launch of the 13th edition of the CDF cup.
He said Airforce was pleased to host this year’s tournament and challenged the its team to win.
He wished the visiting teams from other UPDF divisions and formations country wide a good health in the face of a second wave of Covid 19.
The Chief of Education Sports and Culture (CESC) Brig Gen Muhabuzi said 18 teams were participating in this year’s tournament including 1st to 5th Division, Mountain Brigade, Armoured Brigade among others.
The final score was 3:2 in favour of Airforce which was playing against Armoured Brigade.
The function was attended by the General Manager Uganda Air Cargo Cooperation Lt Gen James Nakibus Lakara, Camp Commandant General headquarters Brig Gen Kakari, Political and Religious leaders among others.
