Longoli Paul, a notorious and wanted warrior in North Karamoja today voluntarily surrendered an illegal gun in his possession to the 3 Infantry Division Commander Major General Don Nabasa at Karenga Town Council, Karenga District.
Longoli who hails from Lolelia in Kaabong district revealed that he had been sharing the gun with Komuria Ngiro from Nachakunet village, Lolelia parish and Kokoi Nyoya from Nakwakwa village in Lochokei parish all in Kaabong District. He further revealed that they have been operating in the wilderness in the districts of Kaabong, Kotido and Karenga.
Maj Gen Nabasa appreciated Longoli for positively responding to the President’s call and implored others still at large to emulate Longoli by handing over their guns to the government and assured them that they would not be prosecuted once they surrendered the guns to security forces.
He assured Longoli of his freedom and said that he now qualifies to benefit from the current Government programmes targeting the Karacunas.
The surrender of Longoli also restores hope among the residents of Karenga who had witnessed a surge in attacks on both locals and security personnel between October and November.
Longoli has for long been feared and profiled among the most notorious warriors terrorising North Karamoja and his surrender leaves the area with the likes of Isa Apalomal and others still at large.
Present were: 405 Brigade Commander Col David Byaruhanga, Senior Officers, Mr. Kedi Ronald, Deputy Resident District Commissioner Karenga, and Hon. Nagiro Samuel Local Council 3 Chairperson Lolelia Main, Kaabong District.
