The joint security commanders have received legal guidance in the conduct of disarmament operations in Karamoja Sub region
The UPDF 3 Division Commander Brig Gen Joseph Balikudembe noted that the one-day seminar held at Moroto army barracks was timely and purposeful. “We want to diversify operations, not intended to erode justice,” said Brig Gen Balikudembe.
Nine judicial officers, composed of Chief Magistrates and Resident State Attorneys (RSA) who were led by counsel Sayekwo Emmy (Moroto) explained to top commanders on case file management, human rights observance and respect for the 48-hour rule for suspects to appear before trial, among others.
Counsel Sayekwo highlighted that unlike before judicial services are now accessible and remains optimistic towards total return of peace and stability across the Karamoja subregion
Like joint security forces and District Local Governments, the judiciary plays a vital role in the ongoing multi-sectoral disarmament operations.
The twenty-eight participants included: Deputy Division Commander Brig Gen Felix Busizoori, Brigade Commanders, ASTU and territorial Police commanders, Prisons Officers and intelligence agencies, among others.
