In a continued effort to foster collaboration among African cooperatives, Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (WSACCO) hosted a high-level delegation from Malawi’s United Civil Servants’ SACCO (UCSSACCO) for a benchmarking mission aimed at enhancing cross-border knowledge exchange.
Led by Chief Executive Officer Mr Waliwa Francis, the Malawian team was received at WSACCO’s Kiwatule headquarters by Colonel Benon Kato, Director of Finance and Administration, on behalf of WSACCO’s CEO Brigadier General Joseph Freddy Onata.
Col Kato underlined the vital role of cooperation in fortifying the SACCO movement, attributing WSACCO’s growth to the unwavering support of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), robust governance structures, professionalism, expansive membership, cutting-edge technology, continuous training, and strict accountability.
Expressing his appreciation, Mr Waliwa described the exchange as a worthwhile investment: “This benchmarking exercise has been fruitful. It is not an expense but an investment in the growth of our SACCO. We have shared a lot and we are eager to explore how we can implement these best practices in our own organization.”
During their visit, the delegation toured WSACCO’s cash operating branch in Entebbe and were notably impressed by the swift service delivery, comprehensive security protocols, and rigorous risk management systems.
Mr Waliwa noted that team has gleaned critical strategies to enhance operational efficiency, deepen member engagement, and strengthen stakeholder relations. He thanked his leadership for supporting the visit, stating their commitment to applying the insights gained.
The delegation, which arrived on 7 April 2025, participated in several intensive knowledge-sharing sessions facilitated by WSACCO directors and department heads.
